How much snow and/or ice was present on the ground at the time of the accident and during the week leading up to the incident? When was the last time ice formed? When was the last time accumulating snow, freezing rain or rain occurred, and how much accumulated? Did melting and refreezing processes occur on the days leading up to the incident? When did precipitation last fall at the incident location? Was there an ongoing winter storm? Was snow or ice actively accumulating? Was ice or snow actively accumulating or form shortly before the incident occurred?

This detailed information and timing will help determine if an ongoing storm, pre-existing conditions, or a combination of both could have been factors in a slip and fall incident.

Not many people realize how much the weather change over short distances. Too many professionals rely on the closest airport to see when rain fell and how much. The reality is that it could have rained at a nearby airport, or been flash flooding a few miles away, with no rain at all at the accident location. It can rain on one side of the street but not the other, as the old saying goes. So, why risk having inaccurate weather information for your slip and fall claims?

Was rain actively falling or did it stop just before the accident occurred? Did a thunderstorm or shower that was recorded at the nearby airport even occur at the incident location? When was the last time any precipitation occurred where the accident occurred? Could water from recent rain have been tracked indoors from the outside?
